Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan has today visited the site of a major new mountain bike park being constructed in Nannup, ahead of a staged opening of the attraction that will start next month.
Once complete, the Nannup Tank 7 Mountain Bike Park will be a major drawcard for the South-West town, with more than 30,000 enthusiasts a year expected to explore over 35 kilometres of fresh trails.
Designed to maximise Nannup's unique natural elevation and make the most of its picturesque landscape including forests of tall trees, the park will offer trails to suit a range of abilities.
Beginners will enjoy getting on two wheels to connect with nature, while more adventurous riders will be tempted by gnarly trails including black and double black diamond options.
The project, which supports the Shire of Nannup's aspirations to become recognised as a trail town, has been assisted through McGowan Government's Regional Economic Development (RED) Grants.
Two separate grants of $46,881 and $100,000 have been provided through the funding program.
Additionally, the State Government has helped to secure $2.86 million for the project from the Commonwealth Government's Regional Recovery Partnerships funding program.
As stated by Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan:
"We're driving diversification of Nannup's economy by working with the Shire of Nannup to unlock the town's tourism potential - building on its natural strengths as a mountain biking destination.
"This new mountain bike park will provide the mountain biking community and visitors with new opportunities to explore the great outdoors, supporting nature-based recreation in a picturesque natural environment.
"Helping Nannup to become recognised as a trails town will help to diversify and boost the local economy and support jobs."

"Nannup has some of the most breathtaking scenery in the world, and we're so excited to be investing in this incredible region with almost $150,000 towards the creation of the Nannup Tank 7 Mountain Bike Park.

"The McGowan Government is committed to delivering to regional communities like Nannup and the South-West region as a whole and has committed $40.8 million to the RED grants over seven years."
