  • New skate park to include new shade facilities, drinking fountains and lighting
  • Premier Mark McGowan today presented the Shire of Broome with a Lotterywest grant of more than $1 million to breathe new life into the town's outdated skate park.

The Broome skate park was constructed more than 20 years ago and is located close to schools, TAFE and the Broome Recreation and Aquatic Centre.

The $1,002,205 grant will see the skate park, that is no longer fit-for-purpose, redeveloped to

cater for all skill levels and designs and will feature new shaded areas, drink fountains and lighting.

The redeveloped skate park will support up to 3,000 young people in Broome to come together to enjoy a vibrant community space offering social and recreational activities.

As stated by Premier Mark McGowan:

"This redevelopment will ensure this popular meeting spot continues to strengthen community connection and bring young people and families together.

"Catering for all skill levels, the new skate park will help keep young people in Broome active and healthy.

"Western Australia is fortunate to have the only State-owned lottery in Australia where the profits are returned back to the community, which last financial year delivered a record $313.4 million to support the WA community."

As stated by Kimberley MLA Divina D'Anna:

"Providing young people with more options to take part in positive activities is great for our community.

"One of the most important parts of keeping kids out of trouble is giving them things to do locally, and this McGowan Government grant will provide great benefits for Broome.

"I know the upgrades including new shade areas, drinking fountains and lighting will be welcomed by the community."
