Building resilient workforce in Asia and Pacific

Our workforce is the bedrock of our societies and the engine of our economies. Yet today, the working-age population of Asia and the Pacific is under pressure, denied the decent work opportunities it needs to fulfil its potential.

A new UN report Social Outlook for Asia and the Pacific: The Workforce We Need - set to be released next week - further warns that workers in the region are ill-equipped to respond to the ongoing and emerging mega trends of climate change, ageing societies and digitalization.

Against this backdrop, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) will convene the seventh session of the Committee on Social Development in Bangkok to discuss regional strategies for building a healthy, protected and productive workforce.

The Committee will also review policies and good practices to further strengthen social protection, the situation of older persons, and disability-inclusive development in the region.
