- Construction underway on landmark sport centre for State's South West

Ground has officially been broken on Bunbury's new community courts project, marking the start of construction for this landmark project set to transform sport and recreation across the South West.
The Cook Labor Government is investing $25.7 million towards the project to build a state-of-the-art indoor sporting facility that will drive participation in sport and attract major events to Bunbury.
Once complete, the new facility will feature six additional full-sized hard courts that are basketball and netball compliant, including a show court with retractable seating, four change rooms, a multipurpose room, administration offices, first aid facilities, storage areas, and universal access amenities.
The development will also include a welcoming foyer, commercial kitchen, kiosk, and bar facilities, creating a modern, flexible venue capable of hosting community sport, major regional events, and a wide range of recreational activities throughout the year.
Designed as a sustainable, multipurpose indoor sporting hub and delivered by the Bunbury Basketball Association, the courts will support the continued growth of basketball across the South West, providing opportunities for a variety of other indoor sports and community uses as well as being a new home for the Association.
The new facility will also help meet increasing demand for indoor sporting venues and strengthen Bunbury's reputation as one of regional Western Australia's leading sporting destinations.
These works form part of the Cook Labor Government's PlayOn WA initiative, guiding investment in community sport and recreation infrastructure across Western Australia. PlayOn WA will deliver 2,030 infrastructure items by 2030, ensuring long-term benefits for communities across the State.
The City of Bunbury is also contributing $3 million towards surrounding infrastructure, including road upgrades, access improvements, and additional parking.
As stated by Sport and Recreation Minister Rita Saffioti:
"This project is one of the biggest investments in indoor sporting infrastructure ever made by a government in the South West, and it will deliver enormous benefits for the Bunbury community for decades to come.
"This investment is about more than sport. It will create a vibrant community hub where people can come together, stay active, and connect, while giving Bunbury greater capacity to attract major regional and State sporting events.
"We're proud to deliver on our election commitments and continue investing in high-quality sporting infrastructure through PlayOn WA - creating healthier communities and supporting regional economies."
