A week from the National Environment Ministers meeting in Adelaide, the Morrison Government is maintaining its determination to put an end to plastic, glass, tyre and paper exports, to increase Australia's recycling capacity and to generate high value recycled commodities and associated demand.
I have today hosted a circular economy roundtable with a number of industry leaders in Melbourne to further identify shared strategic values.
The Morrison Government has committed $167 million to our Australian Recycling Investment Plan, and appointed the first Assistant Minister for Waste Reduction and Environmental Management.
The Government is also working with Planet Ark with an investment of up to $1.6 million in the establishment of a Circular Economy Hub to drive innovation and establish an online marketplace to match buyers and sellers of waste.
Australians want to see us taking responsibility for our own waste, they want to know their recycling efforts are making a genuine difference.
Our focus will be on working with industry and working with all levels of government to address these issues and to create jobs and reduce the pressures on our landfills and our environment.
