The Byron Creek Bridge load limit has been increased to 24 tonnes, following structural analysis of the bridge.
"Specialist structural engineers undertook sampling and testing at the bridge earlier this year, and now that we have received a report back, we are now able to increase the load limit to 24 tonnes," Phil Holloway, Council's Director Infrastructure Services said.
"It is pleasing for our community that larger school buses will now be allowed to use the bridge. However, we will still need to repair the bridge so that heavier vehicles can use it again. We thank everyone for their patience," he said.
Council and specialist consultants will now complete a remediation design before the bridge can be repaired. Repairs to the bridge are planned for late 2026.
The bridge was damaged by a fire underneath it in January 2026. It was reopened to vehicles with a weight up to 6.5 tonnes in early February.
