Cache of guns located after Melton arrest

Public Order Response Team officers intercepted a car driving erratically in Melton early this morning and found firearms, including two loaded sawn-odd shot guns, in the vehicle.

The car, with a man and a woman on board, was pulled over on High Street just before 2am.

When police checked the vehicle they allegedly located the two shotguns, two rifles and several knives.

As they were arresting the 41-year-old man he allegedly threw a loaded pen pistol to the ground.

He has been charged with a number of firearm offences and assault police and is to appear at the Sunshine Magistrates' Court later this afternoon for a remand hearing.

The 21-year-old woman was charged with possess drug of dependence and has been bailed to appear at the same court on a later date.
