Call for Entries tidal.20 Tasmanian Art Award

The Devonport Regional Gallery is now calling for entries to the tidal.20: City of Devonport Tasmanian Art Award 2020.
Devonport Regional Gallery is pleased to announce that entries to the tidal.20 Award are now open. This biennial Award was launched in 2004 and has, since 2010, been an acquisitive award with winning works becoming a part of the Devonport City Council's Permanent Collection.
This year, two significant changes have been implemented to the entry requirements. In 2010 the Award was made a National Award and therefore open to artists from all over Australia, but from 2020 the Award is restricted to Tasmanian artists, or artists who reside interstate that have a strong connection with Tasmania.
The second change concerns the type of artwork that can be submitted. Previously, the Award was only open to artists working in 2D format, but for the first time in the Award's history artists working with 3D structures are now invited to enter.
paranaple arts centre director, Geoff Dobson said, "The first change means that the collection of tidal winners will form a valuable body of works that reflects on contemporary Tasmanian arts practices as well as practitioners, which is also a fundamental aspect of our permanent collection."
"The theme for tidal is as always, open to a range of interpretation be it personal, environmental, political or of a cultural nature. By including 3D works we hope that Tasmanian artists that have previously been excluded from the award will be inspired to enter. I am looking forward to this year's Finalists' Exhibition, which I think will be more diverse than ever. "
The $15,000 major acquisitive Award is sponsored by the Devonport City Council and the Devonport Regional Gallery Friends Committee.
Visitors can vote for their favourite work in the People's Choice Award. The winning artist will be announced at the close of the exhibition and the artist will receive $1,000, courtesy of Friends of the Gallery.
The selection and judging for tidal.20 will be done by Janet Carding, Director of Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery, Patrick Sutczak, Associate Lecturer in Art, School of Creative Arts UTAS and Deborah Malor, Honorary Associate, Visual Arts and Design, Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery.
The tidal.20: City of Devonport National Art Award 2020 Finalists Exhibition will open at the Devonport Regional Gallery at the paranaple arts centre on Friday the 4th of December and continue until Sunday the 31st of January 2021.
