Call out for volunteers for 150th Bendigo Easter Fair

The City of Greater Bendigo is calling for volunteers aged 15 and over to get involved in the historic 150th Bendigo Easter Fair, which will run over four days from Friday April 15 to Monday April 18, 2022.

City of Greater Bendigo Manager Tourism and Major Events Terry Karamaloudis said planning was well underway to mark the significant anniversary event in a COVID-safe way, based on current State Government health guidelines for major events.

"After a two year pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the City is excited to be developing a celebratory COVID-safe program, but to make this homegrown iconic event happen and be the success the community deserves, we will need an army of volunteers," Mr Karamaloudis said.

"Volunteers are critical for the 150th Bendigo Easter Fair to take place and we are calling for event volunteers aged 15 years and over to get involved in what promises to be a momentous occasion for our community filled with fun, excitement and truly memorable experiences.

"You don't need to give up lots of your time during the long weekend, it can be as little as a four-hour shift.

"It's also a good opportunity for students aged over 15 who may need to gain volunteer hours for their school courses or are studying related subjects such as event management and tourism and wish to seek hands-on experience at one of Australia's oldest community events.

"We will need over 80 volunteers to assist with the parades, provide information to those attending and assist at the many events and attractions taking place. Volunteers will carry out their duties in carefully planned COVID-safe outdoor environments so they can relax and enjoy being part of a special event for our community.

"If you're interested in volunteering or know someone who might be, we strongly encourage you to register your interest now. Volunteers will be asked to show proof of COVID-19 vaccinations when registering.

"We're planning to transform Bendigo's beautiful Rosalind Park and surrounding streets into a vibrant precinct for family-friendly entertainment with stage shows, activities, carnival rides, live music and roving performers over the four-day long weekend.

"This year's Torchlight Procession will be held on Easter Sunday followed by fireworks and the Gala Parade on Easter Monday, when the world's longest Golden Dragon Dai Gum Loong will embark on his first solo parade outing.

"We also hope to attract a fantastic selection of floats for this year's parades and registrations are now open.

"We are encouraging anyone in the community who has previously entered a float, or who has a great idea for one, to come forward and register now for this milestone celebration."
