Temiskaming Shores, ON - Federal Economic Development Agency for Northern Ontario - FedNor

Today, the Honourable Anthony Rota, Member of Parliament for Nipissing-Timiskaming, announced a FedNor investment of $40,000 that helped the Temiskaming Shores and Area Chamber of Commerce (TSACC) hire a youth intern for a one-year period. The announcement was made on behalf of the Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Indigenous Services and Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Northern Ontario (FedNor).

Working as a marketing and communications coordinator, the youth intern supported a variety of activities that helped the TSACC enhance promotion of area businesses, services, attractions and events. While on the job, the intern led the modernization of Chamber operations and improved communications tools and platforms. This included developing and coordinating social media and marketing campaigns, enhancing communications and upgrading features and content for the Chamber's website and member management system. When the internship wrapped up in September 2023, the results were deemed so successful that TSACC hired the youth intern full-time for the position.

Providing opportunities for young graduates and connecting organizations and businesses with a skilled and enthusiastic workforce is precisely what this Government of Canada internship initiative is doing in Northern Ontario. Since its inception more than three decades ago, FedNor's youth internship initiative has helped create more than 2500 jobs for youth in Northern Ontario.
