Police are appealing for information after a man was seriously injured following an assault in Mount Maunganui in the early hours of Sunday 1 November.
Shortly after midnight, emergency services were called to an Oceanbeach Road property following reports of an assault.
Detective Sergeant Aaron Williams says the victim remains in hospital and is stable, though the injuries sustained are believed to be life-altering.
"Through enquiries made to date, we believe those responsible were part of a group of people who arrived uninvited to a private gathering at the address.
"This was a senseless and cowardly attack which has left a person with significant injuries and has had a considerable impact on those close to him.
"The investigation team are making good progress and are continuing work to identify those involved, to ensure people can be held accountable for their actions.
"As part of our enquiries, we'd like to speak to anybody who was in the Oceanbeach Road area in the late hours of Saturday 31 October, into the early hours of Sunday 1 November."
This includes anybody with information regarding the incident itself, or any relevant CCTV or dashcam footage to assist Police.
"We believe there are people within our community who know exactly what occurred, and it is imperative that we speak to them as part of our investigation."
