Today's release of 10 years of BETA: Putting people at the heart of policy report marks a decade of using evidence, research and behavioural insights to improve outcomes for Australians.

This report will be launched at the Evidence in Action Conference, hosted by the Australian Centre for Evaluation (ACE) and the Behavioural Economics Team of the Australian Government (BETA).

As governments tackle complex challenges, the report highlights the importance of understanding people's experiences, rigorously testing ideas and using evidence to deliver better policies and services.

Over the past ten years, BETA has worked with Australian Public Service (APS) agencies to design, test and evaluate interventions that deliver measurable outcomes.

The report proves that behavioural approaches can strengthen policy effectiveness. Improve service delivery. And deliver better outcomes for all Australians.

Since its establishment in 2016, BETA has:

  • Undertaken more than 150 projects
  • Published more than 56 reports
  • Conducted 60 randomised controlled trials
  • Partnered with over 40 APS agencies
  • Developed 14 resources, guides and eLearning modules
  • Delivered behavioural insights training to over 15,000 public servants.

BETA has also played an important role in embedding a culture of testing, evaluation and continuous improvement across the APS.

By listening to people, understanding their experiences and learning from evidence, governments can tackle complex challenges. Delivering lasting change that makes a real difference in Australians' lives.

Quotes attributable to Assistant Minister Patrick Gorman:

"The Australian Government is proud of what BETA has delivered over the last decade. Putting Australians at the heart of public policy design and delivery.

"BETA's research helped turn the Albanese Labor Government's Paid Parental Leave reforms into real opportunities for Australian families. Through interviews with new and soon-to-be parents, BETA is helping more parents understand their options when raising their bubs.

"Good public policy should improve the lives of Australians. For a decade, BETA has helped government deliver on this commitment. I look forward to its continued partnership with the APS to strengthen policies and public services."
