Cancer Council WA welcomes the passage of the Cook Government's amendment Bill to strengthen Western Australia's tobacco and vape laws and acknowledges strong multi-party support to see the Bill progress through Parliament.
These amendments to the Tobacco Products Control Act 2006 will provide strong deterrence to businesses that supply illicit tobacco and vapes, including significant penalties and closure powers.
We look forward to the second tranche of amendments this year. We hope together these amendments will ensure WA's tobacco legislation is contemporary, protects the health of Western Australians well into the future and remains responsive to emerging challenges.
