Cardiff Locals Honored in 2026 King's Birthday List

Cardiff University alumni, Honorary Officers and Fellows have been recognised in the King's Birthday Honours.

They have been acknowledged for their outstanding contributions across public life, academia, healthcare, the arts and charity.

Pro Chancellor Professor Dame Heather Stevens CBE (Hon 2012) was awarded a DBE for services to the Environment, to Young People and to Philanthropy in Wales. Dame Heather is one of the UK's leading philanthropists and Chair of The Waterloo Foundation, which has donated £165 million (projected to reach £200 million by 2027) across four main areas: environment, children's neurodevelopment research, international aid, and Welsh causes. She was awarded an Honorary Fellowship by the University in 2012 and made Pro Chancellor in 2019.

Professor Hilary Ranson (PhD 1997), Pro-Vice-Chancellor at Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine was awarded a CBE for services to Global Health and to Equity in Science.

Dr Victoria Winckler (MSc 1982, PhD 1986), former Director of the Bevan Foundation, has been awarded a CBE for Public Service.

Dean Ames (BScTech 1986), Drugs and Toxicology Forensic Consultant at the Metropolitan Police Service, was awarded an OBE for services to Public Safety.

Dr Suzanne Charman (BSc 1999, PhD 2003), Executive Director for the Road Safety Foundation, has been recognised with an OBE for services to Road Safety.

Professor Ann John (MPH 2003), Professor of Public Health and Psychiatry at Swansea University, was awarded an OBE for services to Suicide Prevention and to Digital Innovation.

Honorary Fellow, musician and broadcaster Cerys Matthews MBE (Hon 2022) was awarded an OBE for services to Music.

Dr Inderpal Singh (MSc 2012), National Clinical Lead for Falls and Frailty, was awarded an OBE for services to Osteoporosis Care in Wales.

Honorary Professor Stephen Jolles, Consultant and Clinical Immunologist at University Hospital of Wales and Noah's Ark Children's Hospital for Wales, was awarded an OBE for services to Immunology and Rare Disease.

Honorary Fellow and journalist Sali Hughes (Hon 2022), Co-Founder of The Beauty Banks, has been awarded an MBE for services to the Alleviation of Hygiene Poverty.

Paul Jackson (BEng 1993), Founder and Global Chair of Astus Group and Chair of the Off the Ropes Charity, was awarded an MBE for Charitable Service.

Honorary Fellow Roger Lewis (Hon 2007), Chair of the Churchill Lines Foundation, was awarded an MBE for voluntary services to Service Personnel and Veterans.

Dr Martin Rolles (MBBCh 1995), Clinical Oncologist at Swansea Bay University Health Board, has been recognised with an MBE for services to Healthcare Science and Cancer.

Dr Tyrrell Evans (PGDip 2006), Vice-President of St Christopher's Hospice, was awarded a BEM for services to Palliative Care.

Lieutenant Commander Michael Rydiard (BSc 2008) was awarded an MBE, to be an Ordinary Member of the Military Division of the Most Excellent Order.

Geraint Jowers (BD 1997), Deputy Director of Security Consultancy Services, HMRC, has been awarded an OBE for Public Service.

Lieutenant Commander Phoebe Hall (BSc 2011) was awarded an MBE, to be an Ordinary Member of the Military Division of the Most Excellent Order.

Together, this year's honours highlight the breadth and impact of the Cardiff University community, with recipients making significant contributions locally, nationally and internationally across a wide range of fields.
