The Maryborough Careers Expo will be held on Wednesday, 20 March 2024 at the Maryborough Railway Station and is open to the community from 1pm to 2pm.

The purpose of the Expo is to connect young people, community members and other job seekers with representatives of local employers and industries, to highlight the career pathways and employment opportunities available in the Central Goldfields region.

Central Goldfields Shire Mayor Councillor Liesbeth Long said the event is part of an ongoing development of opportunity for the local community.

"For some time, Council has been working with industry, training institutions and the community to develop more local resources to help upskill jobseekers, encourage local growth and keep people living and working in our Shire.

"For those wanting to remain in the region there are great jobs out there, and plenty of businesses calling out for more workers."

Youth Worker Gemma Simpson said the Expo is a great opportunity for young people but is also organised to benefit the whole community.

"We have special sessions for local high schools earlier in the day but then in the afternoon the Careers Expo opens to everyone.

"Those who have left school, mature jobseekers, those seeking a career change and those with other abilities can also come along and see new possibilities for employment in our local area."

Executive Officer of the Committee for Maryborough Kerrie Dowling said the future of our towns and region depends on new initiatives.

"We're working hard to build partnerships between industry and the community to address the challenges of growth in our local area."

"It's about education and training, more accessible support services in the future - but also about acting now. Our development as a community depends on closer ties with local industries, training options, career pathways and filling the vacancies to keep our community developing and thriving."

Exhibitors will be offering interactive presentations across a range of industries and services, including tourism and hospitality, trades and manufacturing, healthcare and local government. There will also be career guidance and education specialists at the event.

Attendees will have the opportunity to tour around and engage with industry presentations, ask questions of representatives, and learn about further opportunities to engage with employers if they would like to find out more.
