Carnaby's Black Cockatoo now flies proudly from the top of the Cockburn Central Station tower, with the 'Cockburn faces' consigned to history.
The artwork was created by WA artist Kerise Delcoure and features the Carnaby Cockatoo in flight, along with portrayals of salmon gum and banksia trees, wind and water.
A survey was run to choose the new artwork, with more than 1,800 responses received.
Kerise Delcoure's artwork received 77 per cent of the vote.
The artwork has now been installed on the north and south faces of the tower, a welcome new sight for public transport users and freeway commuters.
As stated by Transport Minister Rita Saffioti:
"I'm pleased to see the Carnaby's Black Cockatoo flying proudly from the top of the Cockburn Central Station tower.
"More than 1,800 people had their say on which artwork they would like to see, and Kerise Delcoure's received 77 per cent of the vote.
"Cockburn Station will become a major connection when the Thornlie-Cockburn Link comes online and this artwork will be a beautiful welcome for people catching the train or using the freeway."
As stated by Jandakot MLA Yaz Mubarakai:
"Our local community has been heavily invested in the new artwork for the Cockburn Central Station tower.
"Now we have a beautiful new art piece that can be enjoyed for generations to come."
As stated by Cockburn MLA David Scaife:
"The Cockburn faces were around for years - now it's time for us to have a new piece of artwork on the Cockburn Central Station tower.
"Kerise Delcoure's beautiful Carnaby's Black Cockatoos work will remind us of the amazing natural bushland and native fauna we have right here in Cockburn."
