Casey ARC re-opening draws closer

The City of Casey is preparing to re-open Casey ARC on Wednesday July 7, with a major upgrade of the facility nearing completion.

The $3.47 million project included a total roof replacement, upgrading the solar panels on the roof to operate the facility's plant and reduce the carbon footprint, and building a glass wall between the aquatics pool hall and entrance areas to enable 24/7 gym access to the Health Club.

Following the completion of the structural work, Council and YMCA staff are working to prepare the facility and staff to re-open to the public, subject to COVID-19 public health restrictions.

With the building and roof work complete, temporary fencing around the site has also been removed and rectification works are being undertaken to re-open the playground and outdoor recreation area outside of Casey ARC and Bunjil Place.

This critical maintenance project was undertaken r following an audit that found the corrosive chlorinated environment had resulted in degradation of the roof materials and structure, and that a total roof replacement was needed.

City of Casey Chair of Administrators Noelene Duff PSM said the re-opening of the facility was exciting news for our community and members who have been keen to get back.

"Casey ARC is one of our busiest community facilities providing a range of activities including learn to swim, fitness classes and the opportunity for casual exercise and recreation," Ms Duff said.

"In addition to the critical maintenance work that has been undertaken over the past few months, and the refurbishment of the male and female changerooms on the pool deck in 2020, the facility has also been repainted and I think community members will appreciate how fresh and great the facility now looks."
