Casey Opens Grant for Biodiversity Protection

The City of Casey is encouraging local landowners and those who volunteer on public land to play an active role in protecting and enhancing our City's natural environment, with applications now open for Council's Biodiversity Incentive Scheme Grant.

Casey is home to a significant range of plants and wildlife including many Indigenous species and species of regional, national and international significance. The scheme aims to support efforts to maintain, protect and expand native vegetation across the municipality.

The grant is available to private landowners with properties larger than 4,000 square metres and volunteer public land managers. Eligible applicants can choose between receiving monetary support of up to $2,000 for conservation projects or a donation of indigenous plants for planting.

Funded activities may include revegetation, weed and pest animal control, and fencing to protect indigenous vegetation.

City of Casey Mayor Cr Stefan Koomen said the program highlights Council's commitment to protecting the region's natural assets and supporting the community to act.

"Casey is home to an incredible range of native plants and wildlife, and this program empowers our community to play a direct role in protecting and enhancing our environment," he said.
