A Castle Hill dad is celebrating a $2.2 million Saturday Lotto win after swapping his usual t-shirt and jeans for a sharper look, which he believes may have delivered him a stroke of good fortune.
The Western Sydney resident held one of the nine division one winning entries nationally in Saturday Lotto draw 4709, drawn Saturday 5 September 2026. He looks forward to $2,222,222.23.
If the winner had been part of The Lott Members Club and registered his ticket to a player card or online account, he would have already been alerted to their good fortune.
Instead, we were eagerly waiting for the ticketholder to check their ticket and come forward.
The cheerful man was unknowingly walking around as a multi-millionaire for almost two weeks, only coming forward to claim his prize late Tuesday afternoon.
"It hasn't sunk in yet!" he laughed.
"I buy tickets and I don't check them instantly. I put them in a bag and sometimes they sit three for two or three weeks, even a month. I didn't know this ticket had won anything!
"Honestly, this is going to sound bizarre, but I normally wear a t-shirt and jeans, and I'm very casual but that day I had a work meeting, and I decided to wear some office attire.
"After work, I went to my regular newsagency, and I saw the owner, Robert. He goes, 'Is it you?' and I thought he was asking if it was me because he couldn't recognise me in my different attire!
"I said, 'Thank you Robert, it's me!" but he was asking if I was the mystery winner!
"We checked the tickets and it was the very last ticket that had won! I said, 'What is going on?'.
"I came home and told my wife and she just started laughing. She is always asking why I buy tickets!"
With $2 million about to boost their bank account in six days, the doting dad said the prize would help him and his family.
"We haven't planned anything specific, but this really takes the pressure of us. It's amazing," he shared.
"It will help our family and give us a positive outlook on the future."
His winning entry was purchased at Toongabbie Newsagency, 46 Aurelia Street, Toongabbie.
Toongabbie Newsagency owner Robert Chong said he was excited about his outlet selling another division one winning entry.
"We were very surprised and excited for the community when we heard the news," he said.
