The NSW Government will set up a large live screen and site activations at Cathy
Freeman Park in the Sydney Olympic Park precinct. The sites will be open for the
first three days of play, starting 9 February, play is expected to run from 3pm to
10.30pm.
NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet said the Sydney Olympic Park site was the perfect
place to bring cricket fans together.
"Our nations may be fierce competitors on the cricket pitch but the connections
between our two cultures have never been stronger and I am sure we'll see that
come to life when fans of both cricket teams come together at Olympic Park," Mr
Perrottet said.
Minister for Sport Alister Henskens said Sydney Olympic Park was ideally situated to
put on a live sport setting for India and Australia cricket fans.
"Olympic Park now has decades of important sporting histories, but more importantly it is a central location where cricket fans of all backgrounds can come together and watch two of the best cricketing nations in the world on the big screen," Mr Henskens said.
"We are getting well practiced at live sites ahead of the FIFA Women's World Cup
beginning in July, and we know NSW sports fans have an almost insatiable appetite
when it comes to live sport."
Minister for Planning and Minister for Homes Anthony Roberts said the live site
would further display Olympic Park as one of the important public spaces in western Sydney.
"Olympic Park now has decades of important sporting histories but more importantly it is a central location where cricket fans of all backgrounds can come together and watch two of the best cricketing nations in the world on the big screen," Mr Roberts said.
"There is incredible excitement and anticipation for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar
Test series between Australia and India, two of the top teams in world cricket. We
thank the NSW Government for providing an opportunity for fans to come together in Western Sydney to watch and celebrate this iconic series.
With the series coinciding with Term 1 Woolworths Cricket Blast junior registrations,
Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley said it's an opportunity for families get together
and for the next generation of cricketers to watch their heroes.
