The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) are committed to protecting Canadians by keeping undeclared and prohibited weapons out of our communities.
An arrest has been made for weapons and customs offences as part of a joint investigation by the CBSA Criminal Investigations Section in Halifax, NS and Cumberland County District RCMP.
The investigation began in mid-July 2022 when CBSA officers at the Toronto International Mail Processing Centre seized a package containing a prohibited weapon, destined for an address in Amherst, NS.
On August 10, a search warrant was executed at a home on Parkwood Drive in Amherst, with assistance from the NS RCMP Emergency Response Team, CBSA Intelligence Officers, Cumberland County Integrated Street Crime Enforcement Unit and the Amherst Police Department. During the search of the home, CBSA and RCMP officers located and seized two cellphones and 15 prohibited weapons, including one brass knuckle, one switchblade, two butterfly knives, one tiger claw knife, one ballistic gun dart launcher and nine finger claw knives.
A 32-year-old Amherst man was arrested and transported to the Amherst RCMP Detachment. He will be facing a number of weapons-related and smuggling charges and will appear in Amherst Provincial Court at a later date.
