It's said that diamonds are forever. So too is Carinity's commitment to the people we assist.
This year marks Carinity's diamond jubilee, celebrating 75 years of supporting Queenslanders in need.
Carinity started when a small group of Christians realised their vision to establish a care home for the elderly. Three residents lived in the first Clifford House; last year more than 1,000 seniors lived in Carinity aged care communities.
Our vision to provide excellence in care for seniors continues today, including for older people Carinity supports so they can remain living independently and safely in their own homes.
Carinity is also helping to create a brighter future for much younger people across the state. Last year Carinity Education's special assistance schools helped more than 600 teenagers to re-engage with their education and move towards their full potential. A further 250 young people - most of whom identify
as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people - were supported with culturally sensitive education in Townsville. Another of the longer-running services operated by Carinity, Inside Out Prison Chaplaincy, recently celebrated 50 years of supporting some of Queensland's most vulnerable people. This invaluable ministry offers pastoral care to men and women in 14 correctional centres across the state. Our volunteer prison chaplains bring the good news of Jesus into prisons - as well as hope for a brighter future for
prisoners. Ahead of this year of celebration, I look forward to seeing what God has in store for Carinity and our people in 2024.
