The City has today sworn in Khyja Miller as the 2019 Junior Mayor.
"I am honoured to be elected by my peers and appreciate the significance of this opportunity", said Ms Miller, from All Saints Anglican School.
Ms Miller was joined by newly-elected Deputy Mayor Angie Zhou from Queensland Academies - Health Sciences Campus. It is only the third time the two senior positions have been held by females in the 26-year history of the program.
"The program is rewarding and provides a voice for the city's young people,'' said Ms Zhou.
Mayor Tom Tate congratulated the students on their appointments.
"Our Junior Council program is the best in Australia providing opportunities for more than 100 people, like Khyja and Angie, to learn about their community and the importance of local government,'' he said.
"In 2019, these outstanding young residents will share their learnings with peers from 29 high schools across the city. I encourage all young people to have their say in shaping our city's future.''
Ms Miller and Ms Zhou's strengths in leadership and teamwork have provided them with a strong foundation to lead the 2019 Junior Council.

"With 121 students, our Junior Council continues to engage more young people than ever before", Mayor Tate said.
The Junior Council provides an opportunity for young people to exchange ideas, discuss community issues and provide input into city planning, programs and services. It helps develop key skills such as communication, leadership and program development.
