On July 17, at the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) Meteorological Forum, the China Meteorological Administration (CMA) announced the launch of China-Thailand Joint Laboratory for Intelligent Prediction and Early Warning of Meteorological Disasters (hereinafter referred to as the Laboratory). This marks the world's first bilateral international cooperation laboratory dedicated to the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in meteorology.
Global warming is causing more frequent and severe extreme weather and climate disasters, which seriously endanger people's lives and property. Therefore, China and Thailand should work together to better prevent and reduce regional disasters as soon as possible.
According to Joint Statement between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of the Kingdom of Thailand on Advancing the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership and Building a China-Thailand Community with a Shared Future for Enhanced Stability, Prosperity, and Sustainability through a Forward-looking and People-centered Vision, both sides will cooperate in multiple areas, such as AI, response to climate change, and disaster prevention, preparedness and mitigation.
