Choosing Wisely forum to address low-value and unnecessary healthcare

Media are invited to attend the third annual Choosing Wisely Australia National Meeting in Melbourne tomorrow, Thursday 30 May, hosted by NPS MedicineWise.

This year's event will showcase the progress of Choosing Wisely and, in particular, explore avenues for sustaining the initiative across the health system and growing engagement among consumers.

This includes the evolution of the Better Care Victoria Scaling Collaboration in 11 health services as a model for growth for the rest of Australia.

We are pleased to host Professor Trish Greenhalgh as our keynote speaker - Professor of Primary Care Health Sciences and Fellow of Green Templeton College at the University of Oxford. Prof Greenhalgh will present on the challenges of spread and scale-up: implementation science, complexity science and social science.

Joining us as MC and event facilitator is Craig Reucassel – speaker, writer and comedian best known for his work on ABC's TV program War on Waste and with The Chaser.

Two new resource kits will be launched on the day to help health services and consumer health advocates support the growth of Choosing Wisely.

Event details are as follows:

• Olympic Room, Epicure MCG. Entry via Gate 3, Level 2

• Registration: From 8.30am

• Official opening: 9.45am

• Event concludes: 4pm
