City Of Darwin 2026/27 Municipal Plan Endorsed

Darwin City Council

After a comprehensive community engagement process, City of Darwin's 2026/27 Municipal Plan has now been endorsed by Council and will come into effect on Wednesday 1 July 2026.

The 2026/27 Municipal Plan outlines City of Darwin's commitment to delivering essential services while prioritising investment in critical infrastructure and asset renewal.

Lord Mayor Peter Styles thanked community members who took the time to review the draft plan and share their views.

"The Municipal Plan and annual budget provide a clear roadmap for the year ahead, outlining how City of Darwin will deliver services, maintain assets and invest in projects that support our growing city," Mr Styles said.

"Feedback received during the consultation process demonstrated broad community support for the Municipal Plan 2026/27, with nearly half of respondents supporting the plan's overall direction and priorities and others expressing support for some elements of the proposal.

"Many respondents recognised the importance of continuing investment in the spaces, facilities and infrastructure that contribute to Darwin's lifestyle and liveability.

"Feedback highlighted support for well-maintained parks and public spaces, quality community facilities, improved walking and cycling networks and initiatives that enhance Darwin's natural environment.

"The endorsed Municipal Plan balances these aspirations with City of Darwin's responsibility to maintain and renew essential infrastructure, ensuring the assets and services our community relies on remain fit for purpose.

"The coming year will see continued investment in maintaining and enhancing our parks and open spaces, improving community assets and delivering upgrades that strengthen accessibility and connectivity across the municipality.

"We also acknowledge concerns raised regarding the proposed 5.5 per cent rate increase and wish to reassure the community that we have carefully balanced rising costs with the need to maintain essential services and invest in the infrastructure our community relies upon every day.

"Our focus remains on responsible financial management, maintaining service levels and ensuring we continue to invest in the assets and infrastructure required to support Darwin both now and into the future.

"The 2026/27 Municipal Plan reflects a shared vision for our city, one that values strong neighbourhoods, quality public spaces, environmental stewardship and opportunities for community connection," he said.
