Dedication to creating a greener, more sustainable future for Perth has seen the City re-endorsed as a Gold Waterwise Council by the Water Corporation.
Through a range of water saving measures, the City saves the equivalent of 80 Olympic-sized swimming pools in water each year.
Lord Mayor Bruce Reynolds said the achievement reflected the collaborative efforts of the City's Sustainability, Infrastructure and Assets, Parks and Environment, Properties and Urban Design teams to embed waterwise principles into everyday City practices.
"We take our commitment to sustainability seriously, so it's very rewarding for the City to be re-endorsed as a Gold Waterwise Council," Mr Reynolds said.
"The City's Sustainability Strategy 2022 - 2032 ensures that sustainability is a fundamental part of every decision we make, service we provide and action we take.
"From waterwise initiatives and urban greening projects to the work we're doing to achieve net zero, sustainability continues to be at the heart of everything we do to create a thriving city environment."
To earn Gold Waterwise status, the City demonstrated a strong commitment to securing long-term water resilience through key initiatives such as the expansion of the Claisebrook stormwater harvesting system and improved irrigation management strategies to reduce water consumption and increase efficiency across the City.
Beyond infrastructure, the City continues to build community resilience to climate change through strategic initiatives like the Urban Greening Strategy 2023 - 2036, which supports increased greening in public and private spaces.
Public education also plays a vital role in fostering a water-conscious community. The City's annual Tree Month celebration, now in its fourth year, offers a range of free community events and activities that encourage people to connect with nature and learn about sustainability throughout May.
