The City of Swan Council has adopted its budget for 2023/24, which will fund hundreds of fantastic local projects and services to ensure a bright future for its growing community.
Cr David Lucas, City of Swan Mayor said the City is committed to providing the community with value for their rates investment by delivering high quality services and projects to ensure vibrant, green and safe local areas.
"We understand some of the community's biggest priorities in the City of Swan are enhancing safety and preventing crime, beautifying streetscapes and planting more street trees, and upgrading our playgrounds, parks and reserves," he said.
"We have listened to our community's feedback and are prioritising investing in these areas.
"This year, we will deliver one of the biggest local government capital works programs in Western Australia, investing $163 million in new and improved assets for the benefit of our community."
City of Swan budget 2023/24 at a glance:
- We will invest more than $4.6 million on the safety and wellbeing of our community, including a major review of our Community Safety Plan; new CCTV; lighting upgrades in our parks; ranger services; parking technology improvements; fire and emergency management, and youth safety programs.
- We will spend $39.3 million to enhance our parks, playgrounds and reserves for everyone in our community to relax, play and connect. This includes a fantastic new playground for all ages and abilities in Ballajura, and the second stage of a brand new sporting space in Dayton.
- We will invest $2 million in greening our City, planting thousands of trees along our streets and in our reserves and opens spaces to improve our streetscapes, increase shade, beautify our suburbs, and support local wildlife and biodiversity. We will also once again host our annual giveaway of 45,000 free trees and plants.
- We will spend $61 million on building and improving our roads and bridges, including the $4.35 million widening and extension of Henley Brook Avenue from Gnangara Road to Park Street, to improve traffic safety, congestion and access to our much-loved tourist destination, the Swan Valley.
- We will spend $25.5 million on building upgrades and construction, which includes the refurbishment of numerous community sporting facilities to ensure they provide change facilities for both males and females and the reopening of Midland Library and Swan Active Midland.
- We will invest $1.4 million to foster arts and culture in the City of Swan, upgrading Midland Junction Arts Centre and supporting Ellenbrook Arts.
- A preferred site for the Ellenbrook Aquatic Centre has been identified and this year, the City is working in partnership with State Government to get this project underway.
The City of Swan has adopted its first rates increase in four years; a small increase of 3.25 per cent, which is much lower than the current rate of inflation.
