The City of Swan has proudly unveiled a new statue honouring Western Australia's historic 10th Light Horse Regiment at Stirling Square in Guildford.
Created by award-winning sculptor Charles Robb, the 10th Light Horse Regiment Memorial Statue marks Guildford as the place where the Regiment was first raised in 1914.
The bronze statue highlights the devotion of the soldiers to their war horses and features a digger leading his mount out of water.
Installed in the north-east quadrant of Guildford's Stirling Square, the plaques also mention the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander horse breakers and troopers.
City of Swan Mayor David Lucas said the statue tells an important story of the brave soldiers who served with their horses overseas.
"I would like to say a very big thank you to the Guildford Light Horse Statue Committee for all of their hard work in getting this project completed," he said.
"This project has been made possible with the support from the WA and Federal Governments, which committed $150,000 and $250,000 respectively, as well as numerous private donations.
"This statue returns the story of the 10th Light Horse Regiment to Guildford and the City of Swan, and is a story that can be re-told to future generations."
