City to shine bright during Perth Festival

  • Perth Festival returns 9 February - 3 March
  • Proudly supported by the City of Perth through $400,000 in sponsorship
  • City to host free concert 'Under the Same Sun' at Supreme Court Gardens on March 2

Australia's longest- running arts festival, Perth Festival, returns to the City of Light.

Perth Festival 2024 will host more than 100 shows and events across more than 23 venues from February 9 - March 3. This year's theme, celebrating the Festival's 71st year, is Ngaangk - the Noongar word for sun.

City of Perth Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas said the Perth Festival will close out a record season of events in the City of Light.

"The City is so proud to support Perth Festival for another year. With warm, balmy summer nights, there's no better time for the people of Perth to come together to celebrate music, art and theatre right here in the City of Light," Mr Zempilas said.

"This year, the City is excited to host 'Under The Same Sun' a free concert at Supreme Court Gardens where local Aboriginal artists will share the stage with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra, as well as Aussie and global artists for a musical extravaganza," he said.

During the Festival, revellers can discover two free immersive installations hidden away in the old Carillon Arcade.

"The Arcade will take on a new life during the Festival - with a light installation and a wetland reclaiming the old shopping mall. This is a must-see for everyone wandering through Hay Street," he said.

Also, as part of the Festival, His Majesty's Theatre will be the home of Wundig Wer Wilura. Sung in Noongar, this striking new opera will tell an ancient story of star-crossed lovers, who break the bounds of lore and custom.

And the Rechabite in Northbridge will be transformed into a musical hotspot every night, with some of the most exciting acts gathering from across the globe.

Perth Festival Artistic Director Iain Grandage said "We are very proud to partner with the City of Perth as we invite audiences to discover our city with new eyes and celebrate our shared humanity through the radiant work of artists from around the globe. Please join us - we hope to make everybody's faces shine."

In August 2023, City of Perth council approved $400,000 in sponsorship to support Perth Festival.
