As part of our plan to restore our unique Territory lifestyle, the Finocchiaro CLP Government is delivering $20 million in the 2026-2027 Budget to support upgrades of community facilities across Darwin and Palmerston regions.
The funding will deliver important upgrades to urban parks, playgrounds and footpaths making them safer and more accessible, while improvements to community halls and sporting facilities will help boost youth engagement.
This investment includes modernising sporting fields and improving changerooms to increase participation across all ages and abilities. The multi-phased roll out will support several venues with the sports who are set to benefit being, AFL, cricket, soccer, hockey, rugby league and rugby union.
Minister for Housing, Local Government and Community Development Steve Edgington said by investing in local infrastructure, the government was supporting safer communities while also strengthening the Territory lifestyle.
"As part of our year of growth, certainty and security, this funding will deliver infrastructure across the Darwin and Palmerston regions that keeps our community, particularly families and youth, engaged, active, and enjoying the best of what the Territory lifestyle offers.
"Our government will be delivering these projects working with local councils and stakeholders to make sure these projects deliver what communities need," said Mr Edgington.
Minister for People, Sport and Culture Jinson Charls shared the funding supports the key strategic priority of restoring the Territory lifestyle through better infrastructure. By upgrading community facilities and public spaces, the Northern Territory Government is building the foundation for a more active Territory.
"We are prioritising the modern, inclusive infrastructure our community deserves. Whether it's new playgrounds, better footpaths, or vibrant community hubs, I am proud to deliver projects that make a real difference. We have listened to community feedback, and providing these essential upgrades is a top priority in a year of certainty, security, and growth."
"Over the next month, we will be unveiling several new projects. We recognise the community's anticipation for these updates and the government is eager to demonstrate how these upgrades will enhance the collective lifestyle of the Top End," said Mr Charls.
This investment emphasises the CLP Government's commitment to providing certainty for local clubs and community groups, ensuring reliable, high-quality spaces that enable every Territorian to lead a happier, healthier life.
