The Finocchiaro CLP Government has confirmed record spending on law and order in the 2025-26 Northern Territory Budget.
The total budget for police, corrections and the Attorney-General's department will be $1.34 billion in 2025-26, which is $112 million more than Labor's last Budget.
The record spend comes on the back of the CLP on Wednesday introducing the strongest bail laws in Australia following the tragic alleged murder of Nightcliff shop owner, Linford Feick, by a serious offender on bail.
Chief Minister Lia Finocchiaro said law and order remained the number one priority for the CLP as it continued to take action to reduce crime.
"Since we were elected last August, we have remained laser focused on reducing crime, rebuilding our economy and restoring our lifestyle," said Mrs Finocchiaro.
"This is our CLP government's first Budget. We are continuing to prioritise our reducing crime action with the Northern Territory's biggest ever spend on law and order.
"We cannot expect to reduce crime without investing in our police, corrections and justice system.
"This money is in addition to what we are spending to address the root causes of crime, including the Circuit Breaker program, family responsibility agreements, public housing reforms, and school attendance officers."
Treasurer Bill Yan said: "We promised 2025 would be a year of action, certainty and security and that is what we will deliver in our first Budget."
"Territorians deserve to feel safe, and this record spend will ensure our police, corrections, and legal system have the tools they need to do their jobs properly and to protect the community," said Mr Yan.
Attorney-General Marie-Clare Boothby said addressing law and order required a significant investment.
"Since coming to office eight months ago, we have already put more offenders behind bars with around 600 fewer criminals on our streets each day but there is still much more to do," said Ms Boothby.
"We've also delivered the strongest bail laws in Australia, stronger sentencing laws, given police greater powers, and reinstated mandatory sentencing for DVO breaches."
The NT Budget will be handed down on Tuesday, 13 May.
