Cold case investigation - Jingili

Northern Territory Police are continuing to investigate multiple cold case missing person reports across the Territory.

Today, detectives from the Cold Case Taskforce are exhuming human skeletal remains from the Jingili Cemetery after advancements in DNA technology have opened further avenues of enquiry.

For the privacy of everyone involved and due to the nature of the investigations, no further commentary on the individual case can be provided.

Detective Superintendent Jon Beer said "Northern Territory Police do not often exhume human remains for testing but we are hopeful the advancements in identification technology will allow us to bring closure to families across the Territory and in some circumstances across Australia.

"There are still 64 Unidentified Human Remains (UHR) in the Northern Territory and we continue to encourage families of missing persons to attend their local police station and provide DNA. This DNA will then be compared with UHR from all over Australia and may provide the information needed to solve these cases."
