The City of Ballarat is inviting residents to have their say on the future of shared e-scooters and e-bikes in Ballarat, following the conclusion of a three-year trial and recent legislative changes by the State Government allowing their permanent operation.
Since the program's launch in December 2021, more than 375,000 trips have been taken across Ballarat, covering 850,000 kilometres.
City of Ballarat Mayor, Cr Tracey Hargreaves said community feedback is vital to shaping the next phase of micromobility in the city.
"We know e-scooters and e-bikes have become a popular way to get around Ballarat, but it is important that we hear from our community to ensure the program is meeting local needs," Cr Hargreaves said.
"Consultation is essential to deciding the next steps. This is an opportunity for residents to share their views and experiences, raise possible concerns, and help us ensure there is a safe system that works for everyone."
The survey which is available online via mySay and in hard copy at the City of Ballarat's Customer Service Centre, will inform a report to Council later this year.
Face-to-face consultation will also take place at:
- Sebastopol Library (Room 2) from 10am - 12pm on Thursday 14 August
- Ballarat Central Library (Room 4) from 2pm - 4pm on Thursday 14 August
- Lucas Community Hub from 2pm - 4pm on Wednesday 20 August
The 2025 User Survey revealed that 66 per cent of trips resulted in purchases at local businesses, contributing an estimated $3.2 million annually to the local economy.
E-scooters also helped reduce car dependency, with 38 per cent of trips replacing car journeys and 30 per cent connecting to public transport.
Consultation is now open until Monday, 25 August. The City of Ballarat encourages all residents to participate and help shape the future of shared transport in our community.
Attend a drop-in session, visit mySay or obtain a hard copy of the survey from the Customer Service Centre in The Phoenix Building, 25 Armstrong Street South.
