Rockhampton Regional Council is calling on the community to be mindful of their water usage this weekend and into the start of next week.
Water Councillor Donna Kirkland said that due to an unforeseen supply issue, Council is asking the community to reduce their water usage where possible over the next few days.
"Although the barrage is full, we are running low on an essential chemical, Aluminium Chlorohydrate (ACH), that is required for the treatment of our drinking water. This is due to supply chain issues caused by recent flooding across Australia," Cr Kirkland said.
"This is just a delay and the chemical is due to arrive next week, but in the meantime we are asking the community to be mindful of their water usage.
"At Council we are doing our part to help and limiting our water usage at our facilities including parks and sports fields.
"I want to reinforce this isn't a cause for concern but just something we want people to be mindful of over the weekend and into the start of next week.
"Although we should always be mindful of water usage, we are asking that people keep this front of mind and prioritise saving water.
"Put off washing your car, watering your garden, anything outside that can wait until next weekend - all of these things will make a difference.
"We also want to assure the Mount Morgan community that the emergency water trucking will not be impacted during this time, and we thank the residents for their continued efforts in the level 6 restrictions in place.
"As we've seen in the past with natural disasters there can be unforeseen circumstances that can occur, like these impacts to our supply chain. Thankfully this is a short term issue that shouldn't impact most people but it is something we wanted to keep our community informed of."
