Community Engagement Strategy Adopted

MidCoast Council

MidCoast Council's Community Engagement Strategy guides how and when our residents and ratepayers can have their say.

The strategy has been shaped by the valuable feedback Council regularly receives from the community.

"Our teams are consistently speaking with the community about a range of different projects," Paul De Szell, Director of Liveable Communities, explained.

"We took that feedback on board when we reviewed our draft engagement strategy. We can always engage better with our community when we listen to how they want to engage with us."

From the feedback we received from the community, the following changes were made to the strategy:

  • The Community Engagement Strategy outlines everything Council considers when making decisions.
  • A new sentence explains that Council considers all feedback received, even if the final decision does not reflect an individual or group view.
  • The strategy now includes regional/rural communities as a specific stakeholder group.

The Community Engagement Strategy 2025-2029 was adopted at the June 2025 Council meeting.

A Community Engagement Strategy is part of the Department of Local Government's Integrated Planning and Reporting Framework. This is outlined in the Local Government Act.
