- Applications open for 2026 Kimberley Community Grants Scheme
- Water Corporation program has supported more than 130 local initiatives since 2016
- Community groups can apply for grants of up to $10,000 until Friday, 17 April 2026
Local not-for-profits and schools are encouraged to apply for grants of up $10,000 through Water Corporation's Kimberley Community Grants Scheme, which this year celebrates a decade of supporting grassroots projects across the region.
Delivered in partnership with the Lions Club of Broome, the scheme is funded through the sale of Rhodes grass hay grown using recycled wastewater water from the Broome North Water Resource Recovery Facility.
Since 2016, nearly $750,000 has been distributed to more than 130 initiatives that uplift and connect Kimberley communities.
Last year, 11 groups shared in $80,000 for projects including solar panel installation at the Broome Historical Society, upgraded canteen services at East Kimberley College, and a new vegetable garden and greenhouse for the Wyndham Youth Aboriginal Corporation.
Applications for the 2026 Kimberley Community Grants Scheme are open until 4pm on Friday, 17 April 2026. For more information, visit www.watercorporation.com.au/kcgrants
As stated by Water Minister Don Punch:
"The Kimberley Grants Scheme is a powerful example of sustainability in action.
"Instead of letting wastewater go to waste, Water Corporation repurposes it to grow animal fodder that is sold locally, with all profits returned to the community through grassroots projects.
"Since 2016, more than 130 projects have received funding, making a positive and lasting difference across Kimberley communities.
"It's inspiring to see this unique program continue to grow after 10 years, and I look forward to the new ideas and initiatives it will help bring to life in 2026."
As stated by Kimberley MLA Divina D'Anna:
"This scheme continues to make a positive impact, both socially and environmentally, across the Kimberley for more than a decade, by helping turn clever, community-driven ideas to reality.
"Whether you're a school, a community group, or a not-for-profit, this funding can give your next project what it needs, so I encourage you to apply for this year's grants."
