Community Planning Priorities for Thornton-Rubicon

Establishing a recreation advisory group, implementing historical markers and improving the Thornton streetscape – these are just some of the priority projects the Thornton-Rubicon community are progressing for their towns.

Over several months, Murrindindi Shire Council facilitated meetings and discussions with a passionate group of Thornton and Rubicon residents, to identify ideas and projects to help their community thrive, as part of the Thornton-Rubicon Community Planning Program.

On 29 March, community members came together to vote on the top ideas and projects for their district. The top projects listed for inclusion in the draft Thornton-Rubicon Community Plan are (in no particular order):

  • Supporting our children with 'Learn to Ride' pathways painted onto the old Thornton netball courts
  • History markers around Thornton and Rubicon, sharing the rich history of the area
  • Christmas decorations for the Thornton township
  • Advocacy to Murrindindi Shire Council and other authorities regarding Thornton streetscape improvements, as well as more tracks and trails around the area
  • Establishment of a Recreation Reserve Advisory Group, working with Council to identify priority improvements at the Recreation Reserve
