Community Planting Day At East Point Reserve 28 May

Darwin City Council

Darwin residents are invited to help create a greener city at a community planting day to be held at East Point Reserve this Saturday, 31 May 2025.

Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis said the planting day would contribute to creating a cooler, greener, and cleaner city for everyone, while also supporting the regeneration of the East Point area.

"East Point Reserve holds a special place in the hearts of Darwin residents and is one of the city's most popular recreational destinations," Mr Vatskalis said.

"As one of Darwin's largest reserves, it spans over 200 hectares of green open space and recreational areas.

"Holes have been pre-drilled for the community planting day to make it easy for people to take part.

"We aim to plant 2,000 native plants, which have been specifically chosen to increase biodiversity and continue to revegetate the area," he said.

The planting day will run from 8:00 am until 11:00 am behind the toilet block near the East Point gun turret.

Sunscreen, gloves and cold water will be provided and there will be staff available onsite to assist. Attendees are encouraged to wear a hat and enclosed shoes.
