Community says thank you following extreme weather event

Guy Barnett,

This afternoon, I will join Disaster Relief Australia in coming together to thank the Kentish community, councils and all the dedicated volunteers for their efforts as part of Operation Sheean.

Over the weekend of 11 June 2022, the Kentish Council and Central Coast Council municipalities were subject to a severe weather event, with wind gusts of up to 200kmph causing extensive damage to property and the environment.

Kentish Council, Central Coast Council, our emergency services and service providers such as TasNetworks worked extremely hard under adverse conditions to ensure the safety and wellbeing of residents whilst getting essential services back on line as quickly as possible.

Disaster Relief Australia provided a helping hand to the clean-up effort deploying more than 20 volunteers, many of who are ex-veterans or retired emergency service workers.

Disaster Relief Australia completed more than 70 requests for assistance over several weeks as part of Operation Sheean and will continue to assist as they are able.

The Tasmanian Government acknowledges and thanks the many community groups including Rural Alive and Well, Grans Van, Sheffield Lions along with our emergency service personnel, residents and volunteers involved in the clean-up efforts.

The Government is continuing to provide assistance with the Australian Federal Government through the jointly funded Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements.
