Community sector reps recognised in King's Birthday Honours: ACOSS

The Australian Council of Social Service would like to acknowledge people across the community sector who were recognised for services to social justice through research and advocacy.in this year's King's Birthday Honours.

They include Ricci (Ulrike) Bartels who was awarded a Medal (OAM) of the Order of Australia for her long time service to the community through a number of organisations. Ms Bartels is a long time member of the Raise the Rate for Good campaign and a relentless advocate for an increase to income support.

Antoinette Braybrook was appointed a Member (AM) of the Order of Australia for significant service to the law, and to family violence prevention.

VCOSS CEO Emma King was awarded a Medal (OAM) of the Order of Australia for service to the community through social welfare organisations.

ACOSS CEO Cassandra Goldie was appointed an Officer (AO) of the Order of Australia for distinguished services to social justice through leadership and advocacy, promoting the rights of marginalised and disadvantaged people.

ACOSS President Hang Vo said: "It is wonderful to see so many community leaders recognised for their vital work to improve the lives of disadvantaged people in our society.

"I am especially delighted to congratulate Dr Goldie on her award for distinguished service to social justice.

"Cassandra has been dedicated to the interests of people who are marginalised throughout her career and this award is well-deserved recognition of her tireless and influential advocacy over more than a decade as ACOSS CEO."

"In addition to her leadership at ACOSS, Cassandra provided strong advocacy across human rights, community legal services and Indigenous rights in Northern Territory."
