Moira Shire Council has awarded grants to 14 projects across the shire, totalling $55,806.60, as part of the Community Strengthening Grants Program.

Mayor Libro Mustica said the Community Strengthening Grants were a great way to kick start a community initiative.

"Community grants are a vital function of Moira Shire Council," Cr Mustica said.

"They help to facilitate projects which enrich the whole community.

"This latest round of grants will help community groups right across the shire from Nathalia, Numurkah and Tungamah, to Peechelba, Strathmerton, St James, Yarrawonga and Cobram."

The 2018/19 Community Strengthening Grants Program had a total budget of $254,000 and were offered in three categories – Major (up to $10,000), Minor (up to $5,000) and Quick Response (up to $1,000).

"The Community Strengthening Grants program aims to support strategic goals identified in the Council Plan as well as supporting community organisations that provide diverse and effective local services, facilities and activities," Cr Mustica said.

"This program also aims to maximise the benefit of our investment by encouraging matching contribution and seeking of other external funding to support major projects and events.

"I would like to thank the Goulburn Valley Regional Library Group who provided support to the applicants with the on-line application process including computer and internet use."
