The City of Launceston will officially reopen the newly upgraded skate park at Royal Park with a community celebration from 3pm today.
The popular recreational space has undergone a significant upgrade, delivering improved facilities designed to support riders of all ages and skill levels, while enhancing the overall park experience for the wider community.
The reopening event will offer a fun-filled afternoon of skating, music and food, showcasing the new features and the positive impact the upgrade brings to Launceston's active recreation scene.
The project has expanded the skate area and introduced a range of new elements, including quarter pipes, rails, ledges and mogul features. Additional improvements include increased shade and seating, new rubbish bins and a drinking fountain.
The final design was shaped by extensive community engagement, including stakeholder workshops, a community survey and drop-in sessions. Construction was completed between September and December 2025.
City of Launceston Mayor Matthew Garwood said the upgraded skate park shows the City's ongoing commitment to creating inclusive spaces for the community to use and enjoy.
"It's great to see Royal Park buzzing again and being used the way it should be," Mayor Garwood said.
"This upgrade is about giving young people and families a place to come together, get active and enjoy being outside. I'm stoked to see locals back in the park already, trying out the new features and making the most of what's on offer."
This afternoon's celebration will include an official opening and welcome from Mayor Garwood, a live DJ, mural painting, free food and refreshments, and a children's skate competition with giveaways.
