Concordia Lauded for AI, Climate, Corporate Leadership

Concordia continues to stand out for the strength of its research, with top rankings in areas that demonstrate measurable outcomes.

According to the 2025 Canada's Top 50 Research Universities, Concordia ranks eighth for research income in the comprehensive university category.

Leadership in corporate partnerships and artificial intelligence

The university placed fourth for corporate research income ($10.6 million), which accounts for 9.9 percent of total research income, reflecting strong partnerships with industry to address societal challenges.

Concordia is also recognized for its leadership in artificial intelligence (AI) research, ranking third for cross-sector AI publications and second for international AI collaboration, highlighting the university's growing leadership in this field.

Climate research excellence

Concordia stands out among comprehensive universities for its AI research collaboration. The university ranks third in cross-sector AI collaboration publications, producing 74 papers in 2023. It also ranks second for international AI collaboration publications, with 486 papers in 2023, reflecting strong and sustained growth.

"Concordia's work in AI, climate research and corporate partnerships is generating meaningful results," says Tim Evans, vice-president, research, innovation and impact. "These rankings reflect the strength of our collaborations and the tangible ways our research advances knowledge. They also speak volumes about the intrepid faculty and students who drive research at Concordia."

The accomplishments reflect Concordia's strategic investments in research infrastructure, interdisciplinary initiatives and multisector collaborations and supported by major funding agencies, including the Canada Foundation for Innovation, the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council, and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council as well as the Fonds de recherche du Québec.

Research activities at Concordia are supported notably through funding that Concordia receives from the Research Support Fund (RSF). The RSF helps Concordia maintain modern labs and equipment, provide access to up-to-date knowledge resources, secure research from threats, provide research management and administrative support, meet regulatory and ethical standards, and transfer knowledge from academia to the private, public, and not-for-profit sectors.
