Connecting ages to hit right note

Wendouree Children's Centre kindergarten children will join forces with Ballarat High School's year eight brass section to perform for residents and staff at P.S. Hobson Nursing Home tomorrow.

This is the first time the kindergarten children and band will perform together for the residents and staff at P.S. Hobson Nursing Home.

Wendouree Children's Centre has been connecting with the Ballarat High School year eight brass band for the past year, under the guidance of band teacher Simon Marcello, to learn about instruments and music while also creating small concerts.

At the same time, Wendouree Children's Centre Kindergarten Teacher Heather Moore and Early Childhood Educator Beth Foyster have facilitated regular visits to P.S. Hobson, as part of the children's curriculum, to build relationships with some of Ballarat's older residents.

The visits entertain the residents, enable the students to connect with, learn from and work on activities and sing-a-longs with the residents.

Tomorrow's performance will bring the two initiatives together - showcasing how community engagement can lead to positive outcomes and extraordinary learning opportunities across the generations.
