Connecting community: 2022 Community Grant recipients announced

City of Stonnington is pleased to announce the successful recipients of the 2022 Community Grants.

More than sixty community groups and organisations will benefit from over $640,000 in funding that will provide a broad range of projects that align with our vision of supporting an inclusive, healthy, creative, sustainable and smart community.

Some of the projects include:

  • Inclusion and social support programs
  • Keeping Stonnington's history alive
  • Recycling Hearing Aides
  • First Nations storytelling and nature play

C Care is one of the successful organisations who continue to support the community through distributing food to people in need.

C Care is a front-line community organisation providing culturally appropriate and easy to access resources for vulnerable members of the community and supporting individuals and families experiencing food insecurity and social isolation with a range of services.

The pandemic and subsequent lockdowns of the past two years have created financial hardship for many people. Compounding this challenge, is the recent rise in cost of living, which has only exacerbated the issue of food insecurity.

C Care Marketing Manager, Cara Susskind said, "Over the past year alone, the total number of recipients supported by C Care has nearly doubled from 776 recipients in June 2021, to nearly 1,500 recipients as of June 2022, and this growth continues to increase."

As a recipient of the Stonnington Community Grants in 2021, C Care has provided monthly support to recipients with customised pantry boxes, fresh produce packs, nutritious hot meals, buddy calls and low-cost $5 meals. Their successful grant application ensures that they will be able to continue this work in 2022.

"By providing C Care with funding towards this program, Stonnington has graciously facilitated the access of healthy, nutritious food items to vulnerable community members," said Cara.

"The City of Stonnington Community Grant has had a profound positive impact on C Care. The grant has allowed C Care to provide 120 food-insecure, socially isolated CALD Stonnington households with bespoke pantry boxes for a 4-month period," said Cara.

C Care's impact on the community is evident as stated recently by a C Care pantry box recipient.

"Thank you so much for the pantry box, it is incredibly helpful to have a stocked pantry! I am even more grateful at this time as my kids have recently gone back to school, and now I can use the staples to make food for my kid's packed lunches." – Lucy *, single Mum.
