Construction begins on Tumbi Road intersection

Dept of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications

Motorists will soon benefit from safer and smoother journeys as major work begins to upgrade the Tumbi Road and Central Coast Highway intersection.

The Australian and New South Wales governments have fast tracked this $64 million upgrade to improve traffic flow and safety at one of the most congested intersections along this key coastal corridor.

The Australian Government is providing $51.2 million for the upgrade and the NSW Government is contributing $12.8 million.

This project is one component of the 3.8 kilometre Central Coast Highway upgrade between Wamberal and Bateau Bay, which includes:

  • replacing the existing intersection roundabout with traffic lights
  • widening the Central Coast Highway north of the intersection to two lanes in each direction, and
  • providing new and upgraded footpaths and shared paths.

The project is expected to be completed by mid-2027, weather permitting.
