Consultant Chosen for Penrith Indoor Sports Arena Design

Penrith City Council, in partnership with NSW Public Works, have awarded the design contract for Penrith's next major sports and recreation facility.

AJC Architects, an architectural practice responsible for designing projects including PCYC Wagga Wagga and Lane Cove Sport and Recreation Centre, has been selected through a competitive tender process.

The arena will be designed to cater to a diverse range of sports and recreation activities, with some of the features to include:

  • a variety of sport courts
  • flexible spaces for community use and recreation programs
  • supporting amenities such as change rooms and storage space.

Penrith Mayor Todd Carney said the design concept will be shared for community input early next year.

"We will continue to speak with sports clubs, residents, community groups and organisations to make sure the design is on the right track to meet the needs of everyone from casual users through to sports groups at all levels," Cr Carney said.

"It's exciting to see this project making progress. The arena was identified as a key project to deliver on our Community Strategic Plan and is an important part of our vision for Penrith as a great place to live, work and visit.

"There aren't enough indoor sports facilities in the area, and this project will change that by creating a premier sports and recreation facility in the east of the City."

The indoor multi-sports arena project is funded through the NSW Government's Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants Program.

NSW Deputy Premier and Member for Londonderry Prue Car said this project will unlock a range of new sporting opportunities in Western Sydney.

"The Minns Labor Government and Penrith City Council is powering ahead with delivering the high-quality sporting infrastructure Western Sydney residents deserve.

"This indoor multi-sports arena will be a benefit for our growing community for years to come."

Project construction is planned to begin in mid-2027.
