Contemporary Music Fund brings West to SXSW Sydney

  • Fifteen Western Australian music acts to perform at SXSW Sydney music showcase
  • Artists will be supported in their travel through the Cook Government's Contemporary Music Fund
  • Seminal music conference SXSW will be held in Sydney for the first time ever outside Austin,Texas with an eight-day lineup
  • Largest event of its kind in the Asia-Pacific region, combining tech and innovation, games, music, screen and culture

The Cook Government will support 15 Western Australian contemporary music artists to travel to the inaugural SXSW Sydney event the first time the iconic SXSW event has been held outside of Texas since its conception in 1987.

SXSW Sydney will take place from 15 to 22 October 2023, with an extensive program that includes a conferences, music, screen and games festivals and a technology expo.

The State Government's Contemporary Music Fund is supporting 15 WA contemporary music artists to travel and perform at the sought-after SXSW Sydney showcases, which have proven a springboard for many stellar international music careers.

Total funding for the targeted initiative is $75,000.

The acts successful in securing a spot representing WA at the prestigious conference, selected by the SXSW Sydney programming team, are Adrian Dzuke; Alter Boy; Anesu, Death by Denim, DICE, Dulcie, Grievous Bodily Calm, Inkabee, MALI JO$E, Mitch Santiago, Siobhan Cotchin, South Summit, Suneater, SUPEREGO and Chiseko.

The Contemporary Music Fund is managed by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries and assists homegrown contemporary music artists with projects that enable them to produce and promote their work, along with building links nationally and internationally.

As stated by Culture and the Arts Minister David Templeman:
