Contract awarded for new METRONET Midland Station

The Midland Junction Alliance has been awarded a $246.7 million contract to design and construct the new Midland Station.

The Alliance - McConnell Dowell Constructors, Georgiou Group, Arcadis Australia, and BG&E - will design and build the new three-platform face station between Helena and Cale streets.

The contract also includes decommissioning and demolishing the existing 53-year-old station.

As well as building the main station building, the METRONET project will include a 12-stand bus interchange, a new multi-storey car park with more than 600 bays, a north-south pedestrian overpass, passenger toilets, eight lifts, stairs, a kiosk and secure parking for 96 bicycles.

The new location brings the station closer to the Midland CBD, improving access between the station and important sites such as the Midland Health Centre and Midland Gate Shopping Centre.

The new station is expected to initially see 3,300 passenger boardings a day, growing to 3,700 by 2031.

Early work on the project, which is jointly funded by the Australian and WA governments on a 50:50 basis, is due to start later this year.

As stated by Federal Minister for Communications, Urban Infrastructure, Cities and the Arts, the Hon Paul Fletcher MP:

"The Morrison Government has committed $3.3 billion to METRONET projects - including $157.5 million for the new Midland Station - which will play an important role in supporting the growth of Perth.

"Working in close partnership with the WA Government, we are getting on with the job of delivering critical infrastructure projects that improve public transport connections and congestion for communities across Perth, and provide a boost to local jobs and the economy."

As stated by WA Transport Minister, the Hon Rita Saffioti MLA:

"Replacing Midland Station was a key State election commitment and we have reached a millstone with the contract awarded to the Midland Junction Alliance today.

"As a more modern facility built closer to the hustle and bustle of the Midland CBD, the new Midland Station will be a brilliant entry statement for those visiting the area for work, shopping, school or just to enjoy one of the most history-rich areas in metropolitan Perth.

"The Midland area is the home of railcar manufacturing and we returned local railcar jobs to the area last year when we opened our METRONET Bellevue Railcar Manufacturing and Assembly Facility - I can't wait to see this new station start construction."

As stated by Federal Member for Hasluck, the Hon Ken Wyatt MP:

"Working with our community to fight for vital infrastructure projects, big and small, is some of the most important work I do as your local MP. The Morrison Government continues to deliver on crucial infrastructure projects across our local area.

"Replacing Midland Station will drive investment for our region, helping to create local jobs and supporting our local businesses.

"The Midland line is vital in ensuring our region is connected and accessible for both local residents and local businesses, and ensuring Hasluck is the best place possible to live, work and raise a family.

"This is part of the Australian Government's plan to build a stronger, more resilient local community right here in Hasluck."

As stated by WA Member for Midland, the Hon Michelle Roberts MLA:

"The new station location brings it closer to the heart of the Midland CBD, which will improve accessibility between the station and important sites such as the Midland Health Centre and Midland Gate Shopping Centre.

"Coupled with DevelopmentWA's wider METRONET East precinct plans, the new Midland Station project will help to create a more vibrant and connected Midland town centre that residents and visitors alike will be able to enjoy."
